The Redskins hired former Chargers GM A.J. Smith as a senior executive on Wednesday.

Smith heads to Washington with 28 years of NFL experience. He spent the past 14 seasons with the Chargers and was promoted to general manager in 2003.

Smith’s son Kyle has served as one of the Redskins’ area scouts for the past two seasons.
