The Falcons released DE John Abraham, CB Dunta Robinson and RB Michael Turner on Friday, the team announced.

“As a football coach it is never easy to cut any player, especially veteran players who have been valuable members of the organization,” Falcons head coach Mike Smith said. “The guys we released today have contributed to the success that we have had over the last five years, and we greatly appreciate their efforts.”

According to PFW correspondent D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, releasing Abraham saves the team $5.75 million under the cap, Robinson saves Atlanta $3.75 million and Turner saves $6.4 million.

Abraham had been with Atlanta since 2006. He missed only two games from 2007-12 and totaled 68½ sacks with the Falcons. Abraham, who will be 35 at the start of next season, has 122 career sacks, the most by any active NFL player.

In three seasons on the Falcons, Robinson played in 47 games (all starts) and made 24 passes defensed and four interceptions. In his nine-year career, Robinson has 78 passes defensed, 17 interceptions and seven forced fumbles.

Turner signed with the Falcons in 2008 after spending the first four years of his career with San Diego. Since 2008, Turner has three 1,000-yard rushing season and a total of 60 rushing touchdowns. He has 7,338 rushing yards and 66 rushing touchdowns in his career.
