The Steelers and QB Ben Roethlisberger agreed to a restructured contract on Thursday, Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette first reported.
The new contract will clear nearly $6 million of cap room for the Steelers for 2013. Roethlisberger follows teammates LB Lawrence Timmons and WR Antonio Brown, who restructured their contracts earlier in the week.
According to Albert Breer of the NFL Network, Roethlisberger’s cap figure for 2013 is now $13.595 million. The Steelers converted $9 million of Roethlisberger’s $11.6 million base salary into a signing bonus to get the extra cap space.
