The Vikings announced Thursday that RB Adrian Peterson underwent a surgical procedure on a sports hernia injury.

“Adrian Peterson had a surgical procedure done today by Dr. William Meyers, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Dr. Meyers was able to successfully repair Adrian’s abdominal core muscle injury (sports hernia)," the team said in a statement. "We expect a speedy recovery and no long-term concerns.”

Peterson won the PFW/PFWA MVP award for the 2012 season, as well as Comeback Player of the Year. He rushed for 2,097 yards and 12 touchdowns, coming just short of Eric Dickerson’s single-season rushing record. Peterson had surgery in late December, 2011 to repair his torn ACL.
