Former Eagles offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg was hired Friday as the Jets’ offensive coordinator, Adam Caplan of The Sideline View first reported.

Mornhinweg spent the past seven seasons with the Eagles, running the offense and serving as assistant head coach. He originally joined the Eagles in 2003 as a senior assistant.

From 2001-02, Mornhinweg was the Lions’ head coach. He was the 49ers’ offensive coordinator from 1997-2000.

Mornhinweg replaces Tony Sparano, who was fired last week. The Jets finished the 2012 season 30th in the league in offense.
