The Browns hired former Cardinals defensive coordinator Ray Horton to run their defense, the team announced Friday.

Horton had interviewed for some head-coaching positions in recent weeks, including with Arizona. The Cardinals hired Bruce Arians on Friday, and Horton reportedly had a “heated” exchange with GM Steve Keim, and was released from his contract.

Horton spent the past two seasons as Arizona’s defensive coordinator, and his unit finished 12th in total defense and fifth against the pass in 2012. Prior to working with the Cardinals, Horton spent seven seasons with the Steelers.
