The Browns have hired Panthers offensive coordinator Rob Chudzinski as their new head coach, the team confirmed Thursday evening.

Cleveland is expected to introduce Chudzinski on Friday.

Chudzinski spent the past two seasons as the Panthers’ offensive coordinator and returns to Cleveland, where he was the offensive coordinator from 2007-08 and tight ends coach in 2004.

From 2005-06 Chudzinski coached tight ends with the Chargers, and returned to San Diego from 2009-10 as the tight ends coach/assistant head coach. From 1994-2003, Chudzinski coached at the University of Miami. He was the Hurricanes’ offensive coordinator from 2001-03.

Chudzinski is the first head coach hired by new Browns owner Jimmy Haslam, who fired head coach Pat Shurmur and GM Tom Heckert following the 2012 season. Joining Haslam in the Browns' front office is Joe Banner, who is the team CEO.

Multiple reports indicate that Chudzinski will bring Norv Turner in as his offensive coordinator.
