The Chargers hired former Colts vice president of football operations Tom Telesco as their new general manager on Wednesday.

Telesco, who spent 15 years with the Colts and was the team’s director of player personnel from 2006-11, was promoted to his VP post in February 2012.

The 40-year-old began his career with the Colts in 1998 as an area scout. He played wide receiver for John Carroll University.

The Chargers fired head coach Norv Turner and GM A.J. Smith following the 2012 season. Ron Wolf helped the Spanos family with the GM search, and will be involved the head-coaching search as well.

Colts offensive coordinator Bruce Arians, who worked with Telesco in Indianapolis in 2012, is reportedly one of San Diego’s head-coaching candidates.
