Vikings QB Christian Ponder is suffering from burisitis and will not play in the wild-card matchup against the Packers in Green Bay.

He was ruled inactive after throwing on the field a few hours before the game. Ponder is suffering from burisitis in his right (throwing) elbow.

Backup Joe Webb, who has not attempted a regular-season pass in 2012, will start in his place. Webb has only faced the Packers once, rushing one time for six yards in a mop-up appearance against them back in 2011 — a 45-7 Packers victory in Green Bay. He is a good running threat, rushing 41 times for 273 yards and four TDs in 17 career games.

Ponder was limited all week in practice with the injury, which he aggravated last week against the Packers in Minnesota. Webb took the majority of the snaps this week in practice. He performed well sparingly last season in Ponder's place, logging two of his three career starts.

Ponder has a history of elbow problems dating back to Florida State. He also played through knee burisitis this season.

The team listed the injury this week as a bruise and was on the team's official injury report as questionable, but he has been ruled out in the team's first playoff appearance since 2010.
