Falcons offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter will remain with the club and not interview for other NFL jobs, the team confirmed.
Fox Sports’ Alex Marvez reported that Koetter signed a contract extension with the Falcons early Wednesday morning after meeting with the Chiefs about their head-coaching job on Tuesday.
Koetter just finished his first regular season as the Falcons’ offensive coordinator. Atlanta has a first-round bye in the playoffs after earning the No. 1 seed in the NFC. He spent the previous five seasons as the Jaguars’ offensive coordinator.
Koetter had been a rumored candidate for multiple head-coaching vacancies. In his first year, the Falcons finished eighth in the league in total offense and QB Matt Ryan had his best season, throwing 32 touchdown passes and 14 interceptions.
