The Browns added two quarterbacks to the roster this week, signing free agent Josh Johnson and promoting Thaddeus Lewis from the practice squad.
Cleveland placed S Usama Young (thumb) and WR Mohamed Massaquoi on injured reserve.
Johnson, a fifth-round pick by Tampa Bay in 2008, spent four seasons with the Buccaneers. He has played in 26 games with five starts, throwing five touchdowns and 10 interceptions. Johnson signed with the 49ers this past offseason before being released on Aug. 31.
Lewis was inactive for 13 games for Cleveland last season and has spent the past 11 weeks on the Browns’ practice squad.
Young played in 13 games with 11 starts this season and recorded 52 tackles, 1½ sacks, three interceptions, seven passes defensed and one fumble recovery. Massaquoi played in nine games with five starts and had 17 catches for 245 yards.
