The PFW staff foresees Scott Chandler capitalizing on an advantageous matchup against the Dolphins in Week 15 and Dennis Pitta staying hot against the Giants, in our late-week fantasy tips for TEs.
Miami has long struggled to cover opposing tight ends, which makes Bills TE Scott Chandler a sleeper option in deep leagues as an injury fill-in. He only had two catches for 30 yards in their last meeting, but Chandler has five catches in each of the Bills’ last two games, and if Buffalo gets to the red zone, he’s a prime target for Ryan Fitzpatrick.
Raiders TE Brandon Myers’ fantasy stock has taken a hit in recent weeks, but he’s worth a start as a low-end No. 1 TE in deep leagues vs. the Panthers. He has only three catches for 22 yards and no TDs in the past two games, and he’s been targeted only six times over that span. However, tight ends have combined for 19-170-2 against the Panthers in the past three games and we expect Myers to be much more of a factor this week.
Colts rookie TE Dwayne Allen in Week 15 found the endzone for the first time in over two months, but with all of the different weapons at Andrew Luck’s disposal, he and teammate Coby Fleener, despite showing flashes, have not displayed the consistency to warrant starting consideration on your fantasy league’s biggest Sunday.
Texans WR Andre Johnson did most of the heavy lifting for the Houston pass catchers against the Colts in Week 15, but TE Owen Daniels did convert seven targets into four catches for 40 yards. QB Matt Schaub continues to look in the direction of Daniels with great frequency, and he is a solid starting option against Minnesota’s 23rd-ranked passing defense in Week 15.
If Lions TE Brandon Pettigrew (high-ankle sprain) can’t play in Week 16, Tony Scheffler figures to get enough targets to be playable in bigger leagues. Scheffler has been targeted 17 times in the last two games, but he’s caught just six passes for 56 yards and a TD in that span.
Ravens TE Dennis Pitta racked up a season-high 125 receiving yards and two TDs in the Week 15 loss to the Giants. What’s more, he was targeted 10 times. Pitta merits starting consideration in most formats in Week 16 vs. the Giants, who have had some issues vs. the pass.
Bengals TE Jermaine Gresham was targeted a season-best nine times in Week 15. He’s the top alternative to A.J. Green in the Bengals passing game, which makes him a viable starting option Sunday at Pittsburgh.
