The Cowboys placed DT Josh Brent on the reserve/non-football illness list Wednesday. Brent was arrested early Saturday for intoxicated manslaughter after his car crashed, killing teammate LB Jerry Brown.
Brent is allowed to be with the team and at the facility. Brent attended Brown's memorial service on Tuesday and had a small cast on his right wrist.
“Josh is part of our family. We have unconditional love for him,” Cowboys head coach Josh Garrett said Wednesday. “And we’re going to make sure that we support him in every way we can. Players, coaches, our organization, and make him feel that support every way … having him be here, and knowing that people are around him to help him and he can call us, he can just be around us, he can cry, he can laugh – he can do whatever he needs to do – and we’ll be there to help him.”
Taking Brent's roster spot will be DT Brian Schaefering, who played for Rob Ryan in Cleveland in 2010, starting nine games. He also played all 16 games for Cleveland last season.
