The Dolphins placed OLT Jake Long on injured reserve Tuesday.
The four-time Pro Bowler reportedly tore his triceps in Sunday’s loss to the Patriots. Long, who is in a contract year, started all 12 games this season.
Long, a former No. 1 overall pick in 2008, has started 74 games in five seasons with the Dolphins.
Miami signed OT Patrick Brown and S Tyrone Culver. Brown appeared in all 16 games with the Vikings last season and spent time with the Dolphins in 2010. Culver spent the past four seasons with Miami, playing in every game last season with four starts. He had 36 tackles.
The Dolphins released DB Anderson Russell.
The way we see it
This could spell the end of Long’s career in Miami. The franchise tag will be expensive for Long, who didn’t have his best season in 2012, and the Dolphins have other key free agents to re-sign. He is still considered a top player at a crucial position, though, so Miami may do what it takes to keep him. Expect plenty of teams to go after Long should he hit the open market.
