The Cardinals have cut veteran Todd Heap, ESPN’s Adam Schefter first reported.
Arizona later confirmed the move and signed TE Kory Sperry to take Heap's roster spot.
Heap, 32, has only played in two games this season with one start. He has eight catches for 94 yards. Last season, Heap’s first with Arizona, he had 283 receiving yards in 10 games.
Head coach Ken Whisenhunt had been frustrated with Heap, who injured his knee in Week Two and hadn’t been back since. The Cardinals have been using Jeff King and Rob Housler at tight end.
Sperry played in all 16 games last year with four starts for the Chargers.
