The Eagles released DE Jason Babin, the team announced on Tuesday.
“We appreciate everything that Jason has given this team over the last couple of years,” said head coach Andy Reid in a statement. “We wish him all the best as he continues his career. By releasing him today, this gives us an opportunity to give more playing time to some of the younger guys in the defensive line rotation.”
Babin had started all 11 games this season and made 26 tackles, 5½ sacks, one pass defensed and two forced fumbles. Last season, Babin had 18 sacks while starting all 16 games.
The Eagles lost their seventh-straight game on Monday night, falling to the Panthers 30-22.
The way we see it
This move might come as a surprise considering the money the team spent on Babin last season, but his game has dropped off precipitously this season. He appeared far slower off the ball and was even worse against this run this season than last. This definitely paves the way for younger ends such as Brandon Graham and Vinny Curry, who had been getting increased reps, to see more time.
