The Bears placed ORG Lance Louis on injured reserve with a knee injury, the team announced Monday.
Louis suffered the injury after a blind-side block by Vikings DE Jared Allen during an interception return.
“I think our game could do without that play,” Bears head coach Lovie Smith told reporters about the hit on Monday. Allen said after the game Sunday that he thought it was a legal hit.
Louis had started all 11 games this season after starting 13-of-14 games in 2011. Gabe Carimi, who had lost his right tackle job earlier in the week, replaced Louis at right guard.
The way we see it
For an offensive line very short on reliable players, the loss of Louis stings. He had been the team's best O-lineman this season. Depending on the severity of the injury, this also could affect Louis in the offseason when he will be looking for a new contract. He is in the final year of his rookie deal and is due to become an unrestricted free agent this offseason.
