How tempted will Raiders owner Mark Davis be to shake up his coaching staff or front office, or both, if the Raiders don’t show signs of improvement before the end of the season?
That is a question still on Raiders observers’ minds after Davis sounded the alarm during an impromptu press conference in the Raiders’ locker room following the team’s latest blowout loss. Davis made it clear that he felt the team had taken a step back and was not playing up to its potential — and he did not exactly offer an endorsement of the two men, GM Reggie McKenzie and head coach Dennis Allen, he entrusted less than one year ago with the football operations of the franchise he inherited from his late father, Al Davis, upon Al’s passing in October 2011.
Mark Davis’ indictment appeared to be directed at Allen’s coaching more than McKenzie’s personnel, but Davis also said he is patient and that both Allen and McKenzie would be back next season.
“They’ve got contracts, they’re going to be here,” he said.
Davis wants to see progress from his team, and our sources say the franchise has indeed taken steps in the right direction in terms of its football operations. It is not showing up on the field enough to satisfy Davis at this point, though.
