Patriots TE Rob Gronkowski underwent surgery on Monday to repair a broken forearm suffered at the end of New England’s 59-24 win over the Colts on Sunday.

Comcast SportsNet’s Tom Curran first reported the injury on Sunday evening.

According to multiple reports, Gronkowski is expected to be out 4-6 weeks. The All-Pro tight end has 53 catches for 748 yards and 10 touchdowns this season. He caught 7-137-2 vs. the Colts on Sunday.

The Patriots could get TE Aaron Hernandez (ankle) back for their Week 12 game against the Jets on Thursday night.

"I knew he had gotten injured, but I obviously didn't know the extent," QB Tom Brady said on WEEI sports radio in Boston. "But he's such a great player, it sucks that he gets hurt, but it's part of this game. He's got to do his best to get back as soon as possible, and we've got to go out there and win some games without him."

The way we see it

The Pats have plenty of weapons on offense, but none as crucial to the team as Gronk. He rarely leaves the field, is one of the best run blockers in the league and as a receiver, is a matchup nightmare and dominant in the red zone. Getting Hernandez back will be timely, and TEs Visanthe Shiancoe, Daniel Fells and Michael Hoomanawanui will need to help fill the void.
