The Jaguars are 1-9 and likely heading toward a complete housecleaning after the season. No one quite knows what new owner Shahid Khan’s move will be, but most league observers agree that he is unlikely to stay the course with a football team that simply doesn’t have the necessary talent to compete for the postseason. Regardless of the outcome, we hear head coach Mike Mularkey’s club has showed no signs of folding. The Jaguars have played their best games of the season against top competition, with gut-wrenching losses coming against the Vikings, Packers and Texans. In the most recent defeat against the Texans in Week 11, the Jaguars left it all on the table, with the efforts of MLB Paul Posluszny (15 tackles, one INT, one forced fumble) and DT C.J. Mosley (seven tackles, two sacks, forced fumble) jumping off the page. The offense showed a pulse, with backup QB Chad Henne (354 passing yards, four TDs), journeyman RB Jalen Parmele (83 total yards) and maligned rookie Justin Blackmon (7-236-1) all fighting tooth and nail against one of the league’s very best defenses. The Jaguars are undoubtedly short on talent, but they are long on character. Whether the effort the players show over the final six weeks is enough to save the embattled Mularkey remains to be seen, but Khan is observant enough to recognize that his players and coaching staff are leaving it all on the field each Sunday.
