Steelers QB Ben Roethlisberger has a rare rib injury that is a bigger concern than his shoulder injury.
Roethlisberger told reporters Wednesday that the injury could kill him by pressing against his aorta, according to Ed Bouchette of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette. Roethlisberger said that the last time a doctor told him the injury occurred was with a rugby player in 1998.
Per NFL Network’s Aditi Kinkhabwala, Roethlisberger said on a scale of 1-to-10, the pain is a nine, and he slept four hours each of the past two nights.
In Monday night’s win over the Chiefs, Roethlisberger left the game and went to the hospital after a hit in the third quarter. He has already been ruled out for this Sunday night’s game vs. Baltimore. Byron Leftwich will start.
