The Bills placed CB Terrence McGee and ORT Erik Pears on injured reserve, released PK John Potter and activated WR Marcus Easley to the 53-man roster.

McGee underwent patellar tendon surgery in the offseason. He played in seven games, despite the injury, and made eight tackles and had two passes defensed. McGee has not played in more than nine games in a season since 2009.

Pears had surgery in the offseason for a groin/hip problem, per the Bills’ website, and missed last week’s loss to the Texans after starting the team’s first seven games.

Potter, a rookie, began the season as the team’s kickoff specialist, but was inactive the last two games.

Easley was a fourth-round pick in 2010, but he has not played in an NFL game.

The way we see it

Losing McGee and Pears is tough for the Bills’ depth at both corner and tackle. They will be without CB Aaron Williams, thrusting Leodis McKelvin back into a starting role, and with two roster spots available are sure to add a corner this week, especially with the Patriots looming.

Chris Hairston will take over at right tackle for Pears. It’s not a huge drop-off, especially since Pears was not at 100 percent, but the depth behind Hairston and OLT Cordy Glenn is very shaky.
