The Bills’ passing game has a pair of electric pass-catching backs, a stellar route runner in Stevie Johnson and a reliable tight end in Scott Chandler. It had been missing a deep threat, and by watching their games, it still is, even with the addition of rookie WR T.J. Graham.

We had been hearing the Bills were intent on getting Graham more involved in the offense, and QB Ryan Fitzpatrick confirmed that Monday morning on WGR sports radio in Buffalo. Following a 21-9 loss to Houston in which the offense received plenty of scrutiny, Fitzpatrick said the team might look at more downfield plays to involve Graham.

The problem, though, is that Fitzpatrick is far from adept throwing the deep ball — he is 0-for-7 on passes thrown 31 yards or more this season — and that will get more difficult when the weather gets colder. Graham played in 33 snaps on Sunday, but his two catches went for four yards. Without the opportunity to get Graham deep, the Bills are trying to use screens to get the most out of his speed, and the results have been mediocre — he has 14 catches for 109 yards this season, and a long of 19 yards. In Graham’s last three games, he has four catches for 16 yards.
