Is it possible the Cardinals could be considering making some changes in their coaching staff during the team's bye next week perhaps involving offensive coordinator Mike Miller and/or veteran offensive line coach Russ Grimm, who both have been under a lot of heat in the desert?
“I don’t see it, especially Grimm,” said one veteran source on the scene. “(Head coach Ken) Whisenhunt still likes Russ a lot. Plus, the team has never had an assistant O-line coach, so who would they hire?”
As for Miller, the source said it is possible Whisenhunt could replace him as the team's primary play-caller.
“But I really don’t see that happening, either,” he added. “Whisenhunt keeps stressing the need to not panic, and that the wrong message is sent when you do drastic things.
“If he actually was to take over the play-calling, I think he would go out of his way to do it very quietly, without anybody really knowing it.”
We hear the Cardinals' front office is also under increased duress lately for its failure to aggressively address personnel problems on the offensive line and at running back.
The team’s failure to lure former first-round OT Chris Williams, who opted to sign with the division-rival Rams, appears to have particularly upset the Cardinals’ fan base.
“They say they made a pretty hard push for Williams,” the insider said. “But it’s never been a front office that reacts quickly in troubled times.”
