Cowboys ILB Sean Lee will undergo season-ending surgery on his right big toe.

Lee was hurt in Sunday’s win over the Panthers. Per ESPN Dallas, a second MRI on Tuesday confirmed that he suffered significant ligament damage and has the most severe case of turf toe.

The Cowboys placed Lee on injured reserve Wednesday, along with P Chris Jones. They signed S Charlie Peprah and LB Ernie Smis.

In six games, Lee is the team leader with 58 tackles. He also has three tackles for loss, three passes defensed and one interception. Last season, Lee led the team with 102 tackles and had four interceptions.

Dan Connor will be Lee’s replacement. The fifth-year veteran started 11 games for Carolina last year. He has appeared in all six games this season and has 11 tackles. Bruce Carter will reportedly be the signalcaller on the defensive side of the ball in Lee's absence.

Sims played in 13 games with four starts for the Colts last season and had 32 tackles. He is a former top-10 pick of the Lions.
