CB Alfonzo Dennard was considered a mid-round prospect coming out of college, but he battled injuries as a senior and an arrest five days before the draft hurt his draft stock. The Patriots snagged him in the seventh round, and he got off to a slow start in camp because of a hamstring injury, but he has been called into action the past two games for struggling CBs Sterling Moore and Kyle Arrington, respectively.

Dennard played in 48 of the team’s 57 defensive snaps vs. Seattle and he has played well enough in the two games to potentially compete to start down the line. The Patriots’ hope from the spring that Ras-I Dowling would take over a starting spot opposite Devin McCourty didn’t pan out, and Arrington has had his struggles. If he keeps playing well, Dennard, who had three tackles, including one for a loss against Seattle, could be a better option at right corner than Arrington, who would move to the slot. According to PFW's 2012 Draft Preview, Dennard “does not back down from a challenge,” and he might be the boost the secondary needs and prove to be another Patriots draft steal.
