The Lions signed CB Alphonso Smith and released RB Keiland Williams, the team announced Thursday.

Detroit released Smith following training camp. Last season, he played in 11 games with one start for the Lions and had 27 tackles, six passes defensed and three interceptions. In 2010, he started 10 games and had eight passes defensed and five picks.

Lions CBs Bill Bentley and Jacob Lacey were injured in last Sunday’s win over Philadelphia.

Williams has appeared in each game this season and has two carries and two receptions.
