Cardinals RB Williams to have season-ending shoulder surgery

Cardinals RB Ryan Williams needs surgery on his shoulder and is out for the rest of the season, head coach Ken Whisenhunt said Monday.

Williams injured his left shoulder in Thursday night’s loss to the Rams on a hard hit from Rams S Darian Stewart. He left the game and did not return.

The second-year back missed his entire rookie season after a season-ending knee injury in the preseason. In five games and three starts this season, Williams had 58 carries for 164 yards and seven catches for 44 yards.

The Cardinals already placed RB Beanie Wells on the injured-reserve list with a designation to return. They brought back RB Alfonso Smith and also have William Powell. LaRod Stephens-Howling has missed the past two games with a hip injury.
