The Rams and RB Steven Jackson agreed to void the final year of Jackson’s contract, which will make him a free agent following the 2012 season, CBS Sports’ Pete Prisco first reported.

According to Adam Caplan of The Sideline View, the contract will void five days after the Super Bowl and it was agreed upon about four weeks ago.

Jackson had incentives in his contract to void the final two years of his deal, and even though he did not reach them, the two sides agreed to let Jackson walk after this season. He was due to have a $7 million base salary in 2013, the same as he is earning in 2012.

The Rams drafted RBs Isaiah Pead and Daryl Richardson in April. Richardson has 27 carries for 135 yards this season.

Jackson, 29, has been with the Rams for his entire career. He was a first-round pick in 2004 and has reached three Pro Bowls. He is currently on a streak of seven consecutive 1,000-yard rushing seasons.
