The Jets signed former Lions CB Aaron Berry to a two-year deal.
Berry was expected to start for Detroit this season but was arrested twice in a month this past summer. He was arrested for a DUI and brandishing a gun. Berry served a three-game suspension.
"We feel Aaron has a chance to be successful on and off the field here," Rex Ryan told reporters Monday. "If we didn't believe that, then we wouldn't have brought him here."
Berry adds depth to cornerback for the Jets, who are without Darrelle Revis (ACL) for the rest of the season. Ryan said that RB Joe McKnight, who moved to corner last week, will return to running back in a full-time basis.
Berry had 11 passes defensed in 11 games and three starts for Detroit last season. To make room for him on the roster, the Jets cut TE Dedrick Epps.
