The Cardinals placed RB Beanie Wells on the injured reserve list with the designation to return. Wells suffered a severe toe injury in Sunday’s win over the Eagles.
Under the new rule, Wells can return to practice in six weeks (Nov. 7) and be eligible for a game in eight weeks (Nov. 25 home game vs. the Rams).
The Cardinals re-signed RB Alfonso Smith to take Wells’ spot on the roster.
Last season, Wells rushed for 1,047 yards and 10 touchdowns, playing through a knee injury. He had 76 yards on 29 carries in three games this season, splitting carries with Ryan Williams. Wells has missed five games in his career.
Smith played in 15 games last season for Arizona and had 30 carries for 102 yards and one touchdown.
