In his first game of the 2012 season, Colts WR Austin Collie suffered a torn patellar tendon and was placed on injured reserve, the team announced Monday. To take Collie's spot on the roster, the Colts signed WR Nathan Palmer off the 49ers' practice squad.

Palmer, a 5-11, 195-pound Northern Illinois product, signed with the 49ers as an undrafted free agent on May 4. He was waived on Aug. 31 before being signed to San Francisco's practice squad a day later.

Collie missed the first two games of the season with a concussion. He had one catch for six yards in Sunday’s game against Jacksonville before the injury.

Last season, Collie had 54 catches for 514 yards and a touchdown in all 16 games (five starts). He had eight touchdown catches and 649 receiving yards in nine games in 2010.
