Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart has been ruled out for Thursday night’s game against the Giants.
Stewart (ankle) missed the season opener, but had 11 carries for 51 yards and a 17-yard touchdown catch in the Panthers’ Week Two win over the Chiefs. DeAngelo Williams will get the bulk of the carries, along with Mike Tolbert.
Stewart, like Giants WR Hakeem Nicks, likely would have been able to play if it wasn’t for the short week.
Panthers LB Thomas Davis (hamstring) and starting ORT Byron Bell (ankle) are also inactive. OT Garry Williams is expected to start for Bell. Davis is the team’s No. 4 linebacker. QB Jimmy Clausen, S Colin Jones, OG Mike Pollak and DT Sione Fua round out Carolina’s inactives.
For the Giants, Nicks, RB Ahmad Bradshaw, OT David Diehl, DE Adewale Ojomo, WR Domenik Hixon, CB Michael Coe and TE Adrien Robinson are inactive. CB Prince Amukamara will be active for his first game this season. Coe (hamstring) played in the Giants’ first two games with one start and had two passes defensed.
