The NFL suspended 49ers LB Clark Haggan for three games for violating the league’s policy on substance abuse. Haggans was arrested for DUI in 2011 and served a nine-day sentence in June.
Haggans released a statement on Twitter around the time of his sentencing that he had rushed home from a concert because his babysitter called to say that his daughter was having trouble breathing. Haggans ran a red light and was cited with two moving violations.
The arrest took place during last year’s lockout.
A free-agent acquisition, Haggans has yet to play for the 49ers. The 35-year-old started every game for Arizona last year and had 46 tackles and three sacks.
