PFW publisher and editor Hub Arkush presented the Pro Football Weekly Golden Toe award to 49ers PK David Akers and P Andy Lee before Sunday night’s game against the Lions.
In the 40-year history of the award, Akers and Lee are the first-ever co-recipients of the Golden Toe.
In 2011, Akers converted 44-of-52 field-goal attempts and all 34 point-after tries. Forty-seven of his 93 kickoffs resulted in touchbacks. He was 7-of-9 on field goals from 50 yards and beyond. Akers got his 2012 season off to a hot start, connecting on a record-tying 63-yard field goal at Lambeau Field.
Lee’s 45.7-yard gross punting average from last season ranks first in franchise history. Lee received a contract extension from the Niners this offseason.
