There is a collective hush around Chiefs WR Jon Baldwin, who was a standout during training camp — especially when Dwayne Bowe was still holding out — but has been a missing man of sorts since. His preseason action was quiet, with a fumble and only one of his eight receptions going longer than nine yards.
In the Week One game against the Falcons, despite the Chiefs throwing the ball 33 times, not a single one went in his direction. He also played only 22 snaps, fewer than any other Chiefs wideout, including Dexter McCluster and Steve Breaston, who are smaller and less talented.
We hear Baldwin, of whom head coach Romeo Crennel said is trying to find a role, has yet to instill confidence in his offensive teammates despite Baldwin’s obvious physical skills. At some point he’ll have to show he can be trusted to make an impact in a game, otherwise he’ll be headed toward the dreaded bust label.
