Raiders WR Jacoby Ford will undergo surgery on his left foot and is expected to be out for “a significant amount of time,” head coach Dennis Allen told reporters Tuesday.
“After visiting with the foot specialist in Carolina, everybody thought that given a little bit of time (Ford) could come back from it," Allen said, according to The Sacramento Bee. "After giving it some time and re-evaluating, everybody, the medical people, felt like surgery was probably the best thing for him."
Ford missed six games last season with the foot injury and he re-injured it in the Raiders’ second preseason game.
Ford has not practiced since re-aggravating the injury. WR Denarius Moore missed Monday night’s opener and rookie Rod Streater started in his place.
In 2011, Ford had 19 catches for 279 yards and one touchdown in eight games. As a rookie, Ford played in all 16 games with nine starts and had 25 catches for 470 yards and two touchdowns and 10 carries for 155 yards and a pair of scores.
