Bills head coach Chan Gailey confirmed that RB Fred Jackson will miss at least three weeks after suffering a knee injury in Sunday’s loss to the Jets.

Multiple reports indicated that an MRI was inconclusive on whether Jackson tore or sprained his LCL and the team would know more in 7-10 days.

The injury occurred after a hit by Jets S LaRon Landry. Jackson had six rushes for 15 yards before the injury.

Last season, Jackson was one of the league’s top backs before a leg injury in Week 12. He had 934 rushing yards and 442 receiving yards. Jackson signed a contract extension this past offseason.

C.J. Spiller replaced Jackson and rushed for 169 yards, including a 56-yard touchdown.

Gailey also confirmed that WR David Nelson is out for the season with a torn ACL.

The way we see it

The Bills unraveled late last season after Jackson went down. He is the heart of the offense because of his versatility and every-down effectiveness as a runner, receiver and blocker. Spiller has looked very good since taking over for Jackson last season, and Tashard Choice will get more touches, but this is still a big loss.
