The Eagles say they expect big improvements from second-year OG Danny Watkins, and Watkins would be behooved to follow up on those expectations.

Turning 28 in November, which is older than some fifth-year players, Watkins was not the ready-made NFL player he was advertised to be coming out of Baylor. He improved through his rookie season after being benched early on, but Watkins still needed to raise his game entering this season and left enough questions following an up-and-down training camp and preseason to say that he's not yet at his peak performance.

Watkins has some scrappy ability and has finished off some plays nicely in the run game, but he simply hasn't been anything close to polished. Team sources have said that his film study has been a work in progress, he often repeats mistakes and hasn't shown a ton of improvement in some of his pass-protection techniques.

This season, he must step up for the Eagles to feel good about his progress. At 28, he will be far closer to being out of the league than as a young player that's just trying to figure things out.
