Panthers RB Jonathan Stewart will not play in the season opener against the Buccaneers.
“Sorry panther fans but it Looks like I’ll be missing the game opener this year du to my recent ankle sprain,” Stewart wrote on his Twitter. “I’ll be helping my team today by cheering them on! Lets go panthers!!”
Stewart, who signed a multi-year extension this summer, rushed for 761 yards and four touchdowns last season. He also had 47 catches for 413 yards. DeAngelo Williams will start and get the bulk of the carries. The Panthers also have newcomer RB Mike Tolbert to share the load.
