The Browns will not hold a public pregame tribute to Art Modell at the request of the late NFL owner's son, multiple media outlets reported Saturday.
Ravens spokesman Kevin Byrne told the The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer that David Modell asked Browns president Mike Holmgren not to hold a planned acknowledgement of Art Modell's passing as the club had planned.
"David told Mike that he really appreciated the call and the offer, but that he knew it would not be totally accepted by the Cleveland fans,'' Byrne told The Plain Dealer. "David suggested that the Browns not do a tribute."
The NFL had asked clubs to hold a rememberance of Art Modell, who passed away Thursday at age 87. Art Modell moved the original Cleveland Browns franchise to Baltimore in 1996.
