A too-long list of injuries in the trenches is a major concern for the Bengals as the regular season begins. Already they have lost two projected starting offensive linemen, with OLG Travelle Wharton (knee) out for the season and C Kyle Cook (ankle) out until at least Week Nine after being placed on injured reserve. Also, DEs Carlos Dunlap and Robert Geathers have dealt with knee injuries. Injuries up front are not what a club wants when constructing a roster, one personnel man told PFW. “You want to be heavy on your offensive line and your defensive line,” said the evaluator, who spoke on condition of anonymity. The Bengals were able to replace Wharton with 2011 fourth-round pick Clint Boling, who started three games in 2011. To replace Cook, they added 31-year-old Jeff Faine, who has started in the middle for Cleveland, New Orleans and Tampa Bay. The Bengals did well to add the experienced Faine, the evaluator told PFW, but the veteran center is a little on the small side at 291 pounds.
