Cowboys TE Jason Witten is listed as doubtful for Wednesday night’s opener against the Giants, but he is reportedly doing everything possible to play in the game.
According to ESPN’s Chris Mortensen, Witten has “persistently” offered to sign a medical waiver to absolve the Cowboys and their doctors of liability. Witten suffered a lacerated spleen in a preseason game against the Raiders and is considered a game-time decision. The Cowboys will not accept any kind of waiver from Witten, however.
Witten has not missed a game since his rookie season in 2003. He had 79 catches for 942 yards and five touchdowns last season. John Phillips would start in Witten’s place.
