Redskins S Brandon Meriweather will miss 2-4 weeks because of sprained ligaments in his left knee, head coach Mike Shanahan said Wednesday.
Meriweather hurt his knee in Monday’s practice. The two-time Pro Bowler signed with Washington in March after spending last season in Chicago.
In 2011, Meriweather played in 11 games with four starts and had 32 tackles and two passes defensed. From 2007-10, Meriweather had 12 interceptions with the Patriots.
Meriweather’s fellow starting safety, Tanard Jackson, has been suspended indefinitely after a failed drug test. The Redskins open their season Sunday against the Saints.
