The Rams announced Sunday evening that they have signed OG Shelley Smith and OT Ty Nsekhe. The team released TE Michael Hoomanawanui and OG Quinn Ojinnaka to make room on the roster.
Smith was cut by the Texans on Sunday to make room for OT Ryan Harris. Nsekhe was cut by the Colts on Saturday. Both players are expected to add much-needed depth to the Rams' revamped O-line.
Hoomanawanui, a 2010 fifth-round draft pick, had trouble staying healthy during his two seasons in St. Louis. He played only eight games in both 2010 and '11 and had 20 catches for 229 yards and three TDs in those 16 games.
Ojinnaka was a free-agent signing this offseason and he was thought to be the front-runner for the team's starting OLG job. However, he didn't play well in the preseason and the team apparently has decided to give the OLG starting spot to fifth-round rookie Rokevious Watkins.
