Vikings rookie S Harrison Smith was fined $21,000 for unnecessary roughness, the league confirmed to Pro Football Talk. 

Smith hit Chargers WR Mike Willie in the head and neck area with his shoulder during a play late in the fourth quarter of last week’s preseason game.

Smith was fined for unnecessarily striking a defenseless player in the head and neck area.
