The Steelers became the first team to reduce its roster to 53 players, and they placed LB Sean Spence on injured reserve.
Spence suffered a significant left knee injury in Thursday night’s preseason finale.
The Steelers released veteran OL Trai Essex and P Jeremy Kapinos, who was waived/injured. Essex played in 76 games with 28 starts in his time with the Steelers.
The other Steelers cuts included DBs Damon Cromartie-Smith, Terrence Frederick and Josh Victorian, LBs Brandon Hicks and Marshall McFadden, DL Corbin Bryant, Igbinosun Ikponmwosa and Jake Stoller, QB Jerrod Johnson, RB JuJuan Harris, WRs Tyler Beller, Toney Clemons, David Gilreath, Marquis Maze and Derrick Williams, and OL Ryan Lee, John Malecki and Chris Scott.
