The Falcons swapped backup quarterbacks on Tuesday, signing Luke McCown and releasing Chris Redman.

PFW correspondent D. Orlando Ledbetter of the Atlanta Journal-Constitution first reported the move. McCown’s agent Mike McCartney confirmed the signing on Twitter.

Redman has been with the Falcons since 2007. He started four games for Atlanta that season and threw 10 touchdowns. He started two games in ’09. Redman began his career with the Ravens in 2000 and started six games in ’02.

McCown spent the preseason with the Saints after playing for the Jaguars the past three seasons. In 2011, he played in four games with two starts and completed 30-of-56 passes for 296 yards, zero touchdowns and four interceptions. McCown started four games for the Browns in ’04 and three for the Buccaneers in ’07.

The Falcons’ new offensive coordinator, Dirk Koetter, was with McCown in Jacksonville last season.
