Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll announced Sunday that rookie QB Russell Wilson will start the team's final preseason game against the Raiders and the Sept. 9 regular-season opener vs. the Cardinals.

Wilson, a third-round pick, put forth another impressive effort in Seattle's preseason win over the Chiefs on Friday, prompting Carroll to make the announcement. The rookie led the Seahawks on six consecutive scoring drives against Kansas City and sealed his victory over free-agent addition Matt Flynn in the quarterback competition.

Flynn will open the season as Wilson's backup after signing a three-year deal that included $10 million guaranteed in the offseason.
