Multiple reports Monday evening say that the Jets and Rams are working on a trade that would give two disappointing tackles a much-needed change of scenery.

The Jets reportedly are working on acquiring former first-round OT Jason Smith from the Rams in exchange for demoted Jets ORT Wayne Hunter and possibly other considerations.

Smith, who was the second overall pick in the 2009 draft, was expected to become St. Louis' left tackle of the future. However, he struggled to stay healthy and effective for his three seasons with the Rams and had lost his starting job to journeyman Barry Richardson this summer.

Hunter, the Jets' starting right tackle until a week ago, when he was replaced by Austin Howard, was much maligned and considered to be the weak link on the Jets' line. He is due to be paid $2.45 million guaranteed this season.

Smith lowered his salary from $10 million for 2012 to $4 million guaranteed in April.
